Whittier Courthouse Location
The Whittier Courthouse is located at 7339 South Painter Avenue in Whitter, CA 90602. The Whittier Courthouse handles DUI, criminal and traffic matters for arrests made in Whittier, CA and the surrounding cities. East of the 605 and South of the 60, freeway access is limited. Those coming from Orange County can take Beach Blvd to Whittier and just head West. Whittier Court is home to a very rare sight in the LA County Court system, the free parking garage! Free parking at the Whittier Court is available just South of the Courthouse in a 3 story garage. The entrance can be a little tricky to find, but it’s worth the extra u-turn to park for free at a court in LA County.
Whittier Traffic Court and Whittier Traffic Clerk
Whittier traffic court is heard in Department 1 and can get extremely crowded. The line for the traffic clerks window is often a several hour wait. The Whittier courthouse does allow walk in appearances but only on certain days and at certain times and the schedule seems to always be changing. If you are denied a same day appearance and you need one, ask the clerk to give you a “golden ticket” so that you can be first in line the following day. Whittier court follows the genius LA county traffic court system of “wait in giant line to get into court, wait in court, see judge for 12 seconds, then wait in giant line again to pay huge fine”. We aren’t sure who invented this system, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Walt Disney was a consultant in the process. Or perhaps it was the California DMV. It was definitely someone with an eye for inefficiency and high cost.
Whittier Courthouse Closing? Going out of business?
If you have an old ticket in the Whittier Courthouse that is suspending your drivers license, you will need to talk to the nice people at GC Services. If you find yourself in this boat, you may want to consider contacting an experienced Los Angeles Traffic Court Attorney. Whittier Courthouse is rumored to be closing, although only time will tell if that actually happens. Whittier Courthouse was on a list of courts scheduled to close in 2013 due to LA court budget constraints, but this could be simple politicking for state funds, or it could actually mean the court it going to shut down. We will see!
